Ever ask yourself what Love actually is?

Ever ask yourself a question you thought you knew the answer to, but the only reason you thought you knew the answer was because you never asked yourself the question before? And, now….?

Well, ever ask yourself what Love actually is?

Sometimes, we think we just know something because it doesn’t seem like we shouldn’t know what it is. Like, how the sun feels on your skin or what the moon looks like up in the night sky. You just….know.

Then you ask. Then you question. Then it becomes conscious.

Pretty certain I never asked myself what Love is for a really long time in life. You just kind of think you know. Because you should know. Shouldn’t you?

If you had two parents that raised you, they were supposed to be in Love, weren’t they? Or even, were they? Would you know any different, anyway? Even if that wasn’t what you were able to rely on, as your own little world got bigger and bigger, there were books, music and movies that could tell you what Love was. But, did they know? Then came middle school crushes, high school heartbreaks and the introduction of adulthood where everything was supposed to be real. Were you supposed to know, now? I mean, what’s life’s greatest teacher? Experience, no?

And so, you must know by now. You have to know by now. You’ve felt the sun enough, you’ve seen the moon enough – yes, you know.

But, did you ever actually ask the question?

Experience was your greatest teacher. But, what it taught you was what Love wasn’t, a bunch of times over, all the while masquerading as though it were. Experience, right? How were you supposed to know?

Then, somewhere along the path, your heart asks to know what Love truly is. The Love that you have to choose. The Love that happens when you want to be seen and when you are seen. Because, it’s time. And, as with any question, the answer shows up. Like the heaviest hammer of thunder to the chest you could ever feel. Breath-taking, track-stopping, life-changing.

But, too much of life has happened up until that point that hasn’t been Love. The Love you need to choose. The Love that happens when you want to be seen and when you are seen. It’s everything and all of what is daunting. How could it never not be? Explain how feeling that feeling and not knowing what it is, isn’t terrifying? I’ll listen.

And so, you protect. Survival mode. The subconsciousness does whatever it needs to at whatever cost it needs to. We go on the offensive. We go on the defensive. We attack. We retreat. It’s not our fault. No one ever told us what this is.

Communicate and embrace.

It’s not our fault we don’t know the unknown is Love. The Love that you need to choose. No one ever told us what this is.

We don’t choose Love, because we don’t know. We choose the certainty of defeating the unknown. We don’t actually ask the question and so every answer is easily plausible. And, even easier to believe. To communicate and embrace? No. Surely not. Couldn’t be. Could it?

When you choose this Love, you choose the thunder, the lightning, the storm and the rainbow. It’s poetically everything. And, maybe that’s why it is everything? Maybe that’s why it is the most beautiful experience in this existence? Because you have choose the unknown, the uncertain and your fear without the awareness that once the choice is made, it becomes the known, the certain and your courage.

I had a question. I got the answer.

Be Love.
